Rafe had no idea what he was going to do with Demi, but he wasnât letting all those women have her. He wanted her talking with himâabout sensuality, and doing something with what she had learned. His current fragile state wasnât that easy to bear. âYouâve been running and fetching for those women for a day and a half. You look tired.â
âWell! Thank you very much. You could return to acquiring things for Palladin, Inc. and leave me alone.â
âI am acquiring what I want and damned soon.â Rafe held the birch branch away from Demiâs head as the horse passed by it.
âYou canât have the castle. You canât just come m, flop me over your shoulder and take me away from my business. You broke down my door...tore the hinges from the frame and...you broke down my door.â Her voice rose indignantly, and chipmunks scurried from the path of his horse.
âIâm a cad,â he muttered. âI miss you,â he added, resenting the truthful statement, and gathered her closer to him.
âOh, I see.â Demi placed her hand over his on her stomach. She looked down at his fingers, splayed open and possessiveâ not at all like Thomasâs fingers-together touch...not that Thomas ever held her so closely, usually just for photos. Much like heâd hold a book. âI know youâre fighting your past, Rafe. Itâs easy to see that something is bothering you. Of course, I can spare a few hours for you.â
âGee, thanks.â
Despite his frustration, Rafe settled back to enjoy riding through the April sunlight with Demi in his grasp. The horse trail wound through the firs and pines and Demi pointed to Tallchief Mountain. âI still donât see how she could have become intimate with a man on her first meeting. Oh, I know Elizabeth had to save their lives, but still how did she know how to make him...you knowââ
Rafe forced himself not to groan. âCould we ignore Elizabethâs athletic endeavors?â
âWell, I suppose.â Demi studied the bubbling creek, bordered by aspens, sumac and pine. âWhere are we?â
âThatâs one of the best fishing holes anywhere,â Rafe said, swinging down from behind her.
âAh! You like to fish. Youâve apparently been under a strain. That is supposed to be good therapy.â
Rafe placed his hands on her waist to lift her down and knew exactly what therapy he needed.
